Student-Athlete Tutoring Responsibilities and Expectations
- Students may only receive tutoring for a VCU course they are currently enrolled in.
- Students must arrive on time to each session and stay the duration of the session.
- Students must come to sessions prepared with notes, class materials, textbooks, and questions.
- Students are expected to attend class, as tutoring is not a substitute for class instruction.
- Students must be respectful of all other student-athletes and tutors in the tutoring space.
- Students may only communicate with tutors during the tutoring session and are prohibited from exchanging contact information or communicating with their tutor outside of the scheduled session.
- Students and Tutors are prohibited from working on any graded assignments together (test, quiz, homework, lab report, etc.) in accordance with the VCU Honor Code
- Students are expected to request tutoring at least two (2) days in advance.
- Each student-athlete is required to sign a Tutee Rights & Responsibilities Contract, agreeing to these expectations prior to the start of tutoring sessions.
No-show and cancellation policy
Once an appointment has been scheduled, you are expected to treat it like any other professional appointment by canceling with the appropriate length of notification.
- No-shows: If the appointment is not canceled 24 hours before, or if you are more than 20 minutes late, your appointment will be considered a no-show. After two missed appointments, all student-athletes are required to meet with their SASS coordinator and tutor coordinator to discuss their continuation of tutorial services.
- Cancellations: Contact the tutor coordinator and/or your respective SASS coordinator 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.
