Academics

Student-athlete life is demanding, but you’re not on your own. At VCU, Student-Athlete Support Services is in place to help balance the demands of being a student-athlete. Our services include academic advising, tutoring, and academic coaching.

The VCU Student-Athlete Handbook contains information, policies, and resources important for student-athletes. All student-athletes should follow our Academic Expectations Agreement. In addition, student-athletes must follow university policies, conference and NCAA academic regulations.

Academic Advising

Each team is assigned an academic coordinator who serves as the the primary academic advisor for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics at VCU. Student-athletes are also assigned an academic advisor in their designated major.

Advanced Registration

All VCU student-athletes have an athletic advising hold placed on their account in order to monitor their NCAA eligibility. VCU student-athletes receive priority registration when registering for classes.  Priority registration allows for student-athletes to register for classes that work best around practice times, travel schedules, and all other athletic commitments.

Tutoring

SASS offers subject-specific tutoring services to all VCU student-athletes who request support in a course they are currently enrolled in. All student-athletes are welcome to use all other tutoring services available on campus.

Academic Coaching

Academic coaching is available for all VCU student-athletes. One-on-one coaching sessions for student-athletes who wish to make improvements to reach their academic goals.

Study Hall

Study hall is designed to promote independent learning, time management, and to provide a structured study space to student-athletes. Study hall requirements for student-athletes are set by the academic coordinator.
