Academic Advising

Each team is assigned an Academic Coordinator who is the the primary academic advisor for student-athletes participating on a VCU Athletic teams.

Academic Coordinators assist student-athletes from the recruitment process through graduation. Academic coordinator's support VCU student-athletes in the following ways:

  • Monitor academic progress to promote timely graduation.
  • Work with the Compliance office and Records & Registration to monitor and ensure the NCAA continuing eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Discuss with student-athletes the various degree programs available at VCU to best prepare for life after college through utilizing major maps and other campus resources.
  • Assist student-athletes with strategies to enhance their overall academic success and performance in the classroom.
  • Identify at high priority student-athletes and make appropriate referrals to tutoring and additional learning support programs. 

All VCU Student-Athletes have an athletic advising hold placed on their account in order to monitor their NCAA eligibility. Due to this, VCU Student-Athletes receive priority registration when registering for classes.  Priority registration allows for student-athletes to register for classes that work best around practice times, travel schedules, and all other athletic commitments. In partnership with each student-athletes major advisor, courses are selected to ensure timely graduation while maintaining academic eligibility.
